Exploring a neutral starting point for digital discovery.ThopertyBox™ is the originating framework behind NDI™ — Neutral Discovery Infrastructure.NDI is a proposed reference architecture for recording that a digital disclosure was observed within a declared scope, before downstream evaluation begins.The NDI Reference Architecture is published as a Public Working Draft for independent technical review, constructive challenge and discussion.The question we are exploringArtificial intelligence, search, verification, moderation and recommendation systems all work with information that has first become observable to them.NDI asks whether that initial observation should have its own clearly defined responsibility: recording what was observed, within what scope, and in what order, before later systems interpret or evaluate it.The guiding principle is simple:Observation before interpretation.What NDI proposesNDI proposes a scoped observation record linked to the digital material or representation observed.The architecture addresses the observation boundary, the relationship between the material and its record, ordering, duplicate handling and record integrity.Its purpose is to give downstream systems a reference point for subsequent processing while leaving their decisions to those systems.What an observation record establishesAn NDI record would indicate that a particular digital disclosure was observed within a specified scope.It would not, by itself, establish that the disclosure is true, original, owned by the submitter, created by a human, or the first disclosure anywhere.Those questions require separate evidence and appropriate assessment.From architecture to implementationNDI remains a proposal under review.The published architecture describes responsibilities and requirements. Demonstrating that an implementation reliably meets those requirements requires engineering, testing and independent scrutiny.A central question is whether a practical system can enforce the intended relationship between recording an observation and allowing downstream processing to proceed.Existing technologies and standards provide important points of comparison. Further work must establish whether NDI offers a useful contribution, where it overlaps with established approaches, and whether a focused implementation would justify adoption.The wider ThopertyBox visionThopertyBox began with a broader ambition: a place where people and businesses could explore newly disclosed ideas, products and developments relevant to their interests.That discovery vision remains the context for the work. NDI focuses on the narrower infrastructure question of how an initial observation could be recorded before evaluation.A discovery service and an observation architecture would each need their own practical validation.Founder and originatorThopertyBox and the NDI concept originated with Stefano “Steve” Milazzo, an innovator and founder.Steve’s role is to develop the vision, define the problem and bring the proposal forward for review.
